Real world 5 channel timer review
I wanted to wait to review this item until it had been used for most of a year. I have had so much trouble with LCD timers failing that I thought I would give this unit a try. The LED display is very easy to read. Unlike the LCD displays of other timers that were too faint when cold or completely black when hot. Several LCD timers I tried stayed black once they were exposed to summertime attic temperatures and no longer switched. This timer however has worked flawlessly over a 160F temp range. The status red and green LEDs make it easy to validate timer programming even from 30 feet away. There is a mystery P07 menu item that I wish was explained.A time trimmer? As the MPJA info states do not have loads attached while programming. The programming learning curve will be shorten if you keep in mind this timer has button debounce issues. Fairly easy to compensate for once you understand what is happening. Things I dont like about this timer. The clock could be more accurate in time keeping. I wished it had used a more common coin cell backup battery like a 2032 of better yet a 2450. I wish seconds were more easy to set accurately. They can be set but it does require more involvement. I use my timer to control Christmas lighting, control a frost plug heater on my car with help of an SSR, an attic cooling fan in the summer, and I use it to disable/enable my garage door keypad. People in my area have been UV scanning keypads to see what buttons are used. Thanks to the timer even if they get the right key combination the garage door still will not open at 2:00am. Just as a heads up the timer can be used as a one device five event timer just by daisy chaining the relays. Or any permutation of device count less event count. So despite some shortcomings with this timer they really dont matter when it comes down to having a timer that you can read and that works regardless of temperature. I have become dependent on this timer so I purchased a second one when they were on sale.
